Reserved biochemist Ava Daniels has spent the last six months working on a top secret assignment for Homeland Security. One morning, after a night of finally letting loose, she discovers her lab empty and her boss missing. Interrogated by the very organization she works for, followed by unknowns, and attacked, Ava finds herself in search of answers as the clock winds down.

Aiden O’Connor, Irish born and raised, attempted to put his past behind him when he opened a bar in the heart of Boston. One night, Ava Daniels shows up to his bar asking for help. She is like no other woman he has ever met—breathtakingly beautiful, brilliant, and in terrible danger. Once he learns the true nature of her problem, Aiden realizes she is the key to unlock his past . . . and perhaps to get a second chance.

Excerpt: When Ava Daniels first encounters the sexy Irish Aiden O’Connor

“You bet on the game?” her bartender asked the man while sliding the club soda in front of Ava.

“Nah, not tonight,” the man responded, without taking his eyes off Ava.

She forced herself to blink before studying the drink in front of her.

“Can I get you anything else?”

“I’m okay, thank you,” she responded before her bartender walked away, leaving her alone with the man whose eyes she could still feel on her face.

His tanned forearms flexed as he pressed his palms against the counter. “I know my father has already served you, but are you sure you wouldn’t like something a wee bit stronger?”

His Irish brogue made her head spin. She needed to pull herself together.

Ava took a sip of her club soda and tried to slow down her pulse a few notches before meeting his blue eyes again.

“You all right, love?”

The silky baritone of his voice made her forget why she was even in the bar. She’d never been the kind of girl to go weak-kneed just from looking at a man, but she’d never exactly met one like this before, had she? “I’m good, I think.” The stark contrast of his jet black hair against his bright blue eyes had her feeling a bit dizzy. The color of his irises reminded her of the Tahitian crystal waters she once swam in—so deep she could drown in them.

“Are you a Pats fan?”

“A what?” She shook her head.

“Do you like the Patriots?”

“Oh.” She reached for her braid and toyed with the ends. “I prefer the Ravens.” The Ravens? Really, Ava? You don’t even watch football!

“They’re a decent team, but you can’t be in a bar in Boston and not root for the Patriots.”

She returned his smirk with a smile. “Maybe you could convert me?” Did I just flirt?

“I’d be more than obliged to help you see the light.” He leaned closer until his face was only a few inches from hers.

She swallowed and couldn’t help but inhale his masculine, woodsy scent.

“But I’m gonna let you in on a secret. The only football I watch is that of the Irish—you know, the real game of football.” He winked and pushed back away from the bar before walking to the other end, where a new patron had just settled in.

Pandora Spocks (C) – Luke and Bella: Two Streets Over

It was the job of a lifetime. Touring the world, creating an hour-long travel program at each stop. Bella wondered if she and her photographer/co-producer Luke would see eye to eye, if they’d be able to work together or if there would be conflict. Three months was a long time to be thrown together with a stranger. Her executive producer Charlie said Luke was the best. She hoped he was right. Link to buy / re-release on iTunes)

A Ball of Nerves . . . An Indie Author Update

If-you-wish-to-be__quotes-by-Epictetus-94I have not written anything in five days. I have been sick – and when you have a virus while almost 7 months pregnant—taking care of a toddler—and packing your house . . . not fun. I am moving in a little over a week, so I imagine my life will be a bit chaotic for a couple of weeks. And being sick right now is not helping. But, here I am. Trying to write. I had hoped I would have the first draft of my second novel done before my son’s arrival this fall, but I am wondering if that is a bit unrealistic.

It is hard to be motivated on one project when a million other details in life dangle before me. Not only do I have the big move coming up, but I have the official release of my first novel in a few weeks, and my nerves are starting to get the better of me. A few weeks ago a friend asked me if I was nervous. My reply, “No.” Um? Really? How did that word slip free from my lips?

YES, I am nervous! Who wouldn’t be? Of course, I am proud of what I have accomplished. Holding my paperback in my hands – and being interviewed by a local paper (see here) – were two major highlights for me last week. Crazy and amazing emotions swirled inside me that week.

Nerves though—nerves are definitely STILL wedged deep amidst the onslaught of emotions that are funneling through me at hyper speed. Maybe I should call this all EXCITEMENT? I am pretty excited about being a published author. I would love to make a career out of this, but I have no idea what the future holds. But for now I have to dream, to hope, to ride the nervous waves of energy . . . . I have to squeeze my eyes shut and try not to blush, knowing my mother is currently reading my novel for the VERY first time (it is a romance btw—nothing too risqué, but still!)

Well, I should probably attempt to get back to working on my 2nd novel, since “they” say to focus on writing and not worry too much about marketing.

But –why not do both? My Goodreads giveaway runs 8/27-9/15, so I am hoping that goes well. And I have a book blitz scheduled for the week of my release through Xpressobooktours – in case any book bloggers would like to sign up- check it out here.

I still plan on having my ‘share your work’ post for fellow writers/bloggers next week, despite my upcoming move—so be sure to stay tuned for that.

Until next time . . .
